Language debating competition pupils

Sixth form pupils Anirudh Mandagere and Ariyan Sadeghzadeh-Araghi put their French language skills to the test at the recent northern schools modern foreign languages debating competition.

Debating topics such as whether immigrants should adopt the customs and values of their host country, the boys beat teams from Manchester Grammar School and Arnold School but narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals due to a points decision.

Miss Sylvia Gibson, the head of French, said: “Anirudh and Ariyan did our school proud. Both boys spoke confidently and convincingly on these difficult topics, showing they were more than a match for their opponents.”
