Senior School musicians and singers treated parents and governors to an evening of musical delight at last week’s Christmas concert.
The concert band opened the evening with a flawless performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition as well as the James Bond Theme and A Rocking Christmas.
Then came the big band, who played rock’n’roll classic Jailhouse Rock alongside Nowak’s Sorta Blue and the more modern Careless Whisper.
The chamber choir performed beautifully arranged festive performances of White Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas before the wind orchestra wrapped up the first half of the concert with a Sweeney Todd medley and He’s a Tramp, with vocalist Maddie Hardy effortlessly singing the solo.
The second half got underway with a stunning selection of tunes from Chicago played by the first orchestra, before they went on to perform two more Christmas pieces.
Big band gave the evening a real jazz flavour when they treated the audience to On Green Dolphin Street, How High the Moon and Swing Machine.
Finally the huge chorus gave a rousing rendition of songs from The Lion King and ended the festive evening with Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
Pupils played to a full house and the audience enjoyed every minute of the accomplished performances.
