Poet Mike Garry returns to Stockport Grammar School

Poet Mike Garry performing to pupils

Performance poet Mike Garry returned to Stockport Grammar School last week to promote poetry’s power to boost the brain and the ability to communicate.

Mike, who last visited the School back in July, read his own work and some favourites from other poets to children from across the Senior School in a lunchtime session. Later, in a class for third year pupils, he took pupils on a journey through Manchester via some hard-hitting themes and left them on a cliff-hanger after reading from his collection God is a Manc.

In a thought-provoking final session attended by all six fourth year classes, Mike explored the challenges faced by teenagers today, such as the dark side of social networking, but left them all captivated by his humour and personal experiences from reading and writing.
