This January has seen two new clubs begin in the Chemistry department, and the busy start to the new year continues as those involved in the colour science project with Leeds University meet for the first time next week.
The creative Chemistry society, for fifth year and lower sixth pupils, meet on a Monday afternoon, while every Wednesday lunchtime, staff and upper school pupils now host a drop-in Chemistry clinic to help provide support for any lower school pupils who might be struggling with any aspect of the course.
For the colour science project, three teams of two pupils have been selected from the fifth year and lower sixth to visit Leeds University and work on a scientific challenge over the course of this academic year.
The pupils are making water soluble dyes at school, with each team being allocated a colour. The university is supplying software for the teams to make up the inks to required formulations before they return to continue their scientific explorations.
