Winter concert enthralls the audience

Pupils during winter concert

Musicians and singers from the Senior School enthralled another full house of parents, pupils, staff and governors last week with what was yet another highlight of the School’s extensive musical calendar.

The junior band opened the diverse evening of music with renditions of Wallace and Gromit and music from Chicago, before flawless solo performances from Lydia Turner and Helena Bisby sandwiched the brass ensemble’s Do-Re-Mi, Young Amadeus and Liberty Bell March. Naomi Clarke, Maddie Hardy and Amy Wood’s I Know It’s Today from Shrek the Musical preceded the string orchestra whose Rondo In Blue and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks brought the curtain down on the first half.

The first orchestra were first up after the interval, followed by Colin Greaves who captivated the audience with a solo performance of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. Up next were the excellent junior singers and second orchestra, and, with the evening drawing to a close, the Swing Things left the audience on a high and looking forward to April’s spring concert.
