Sports stars to represent Greater Manchester, Cheshire and the north of England

Pupils playing cricket

Stockport Grammar School’s sports stars are regularly chosen to represent their counties, and this month is no exception with several pupils being called up to some major squads.

In the second year, rugby player Tom Power has been selected to play for the Cheshire U13s schools squad as well as being invited to train at Sale Sharks. Tom has shown great determination to recover from a potentially serious injury just a few weeks ago and found himself training with Lancashire, his club and the school before this latest call up.

Fellow rugby player Emily Houghton has also impressed the selectors this year. After training with the north of England divisional squad, Emily was invited to be assessed by members of the England women’s rugby team and has since been offered a scholarship in the sport.

In the lower sixth, Ollie Hall will be representing Cheshire U17s in two sports. Ollie will play cricket in various county matches over the summer as well as playing hockey in the North of England finals. His sister Sophie, who is in the fourth year, will also be playing hockey this month for the Greater Manchester U15s and the North Hockey Association over the summer.
