Author, illustrator and comedian visits wrap up another year in the library

Curtis Jobling drawing for pupils

Author and illustrator Curtis Jobling and comedian Dave Smith visited school towards the end of term to wrap up another diverse year of events hosted by the library.

Curtis read from his Wereworld fantasy books to second year English classes and gave them a tour of his work which featured clips of his animations and illustrations of his characters, which include Bob the Builder and Frankenstein’s Cat. Some of the attendees of his lunchtime session were even lucky enough to leave with signed drawings.

Curtis also visited the Art department where he gave our first year pupils pointers on drawing caricatures and had them practicing sketching themselves and friends.

Comedian Dave Smith was the summer term’s final visitor when he held a workshop on humorous writing.

His entertaining lunchtime session had pupils in stitches as he spoke about his work in the media and shared his writing secrets.

Pupils then put his tips to the test by writing pieces for Dave to read out before he went on to share his pointers with third year English classes for them to incorporate into their creative writing.
