Gymnast Alex Farrand is celebrating after being chosen by the Russian embassy and the country’s gymnastics governing body to compete in an international competition later this year.

In the competition, which will take place in Vladimir, 120 miles east of Moscow, second year pupil Alex will compete against gymnasts from countries such as Japan, Germany, Spain, France, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

Three teams from Great Britain will be taking part in the tournament, with Alex being the nation’s youngest representative. Despite being 13 years old, Alex will be competing in the U16s event, alongside three of his training partners.
