Our sixth form pupils taking A-level Art visited Salford Quays and Castlefield last week to complete preliminary drawings as part of their coursework.
The first day was spent drawing and photographing the buildings and bridges that make up the area around the quays, which now includes MediaCity, before a break for lunch allowed our artists to visit the Lowry gallery to see the Warhol and the Diva exhibition as well as the permanent collection of Lowry paintings.
A second day of drawing found the group in Castlefield, a regular venue for Stockport Grammar School pupils. Here, the scale of the bridges make for a superb environment in which to draw as well as well as providing a welcome degree of shelter from the elements – for which our pupils were grateful for after Salford’s windy weather!
The drawings that were completed over the two sessions will now form the foundation for the rest of this term’s work..
