Injuries and half-term holidays reduced Stops to 10 men against a full-strength young Brooklands team, many of whom had played in the premiership last season.
Against overwhelming odds Stops managed to give a good account of themselves. However, despite making maximum use of the half-time break, lack of substitutes took its toll in the third quarter.
Stops revived in the final quarter, displaying a more aggressive approach, with the midfield of Andrew Withington, Phil Hall and Peter Hibbert to be commended for their battling performance.
Phil Hall scored with a well placed shot and was invaluable in clearing and retaining the ball under pressure. Neil Catto came away with two goals and might have increased this if Stops’ attack had seen more of the ball.
At times when they did have the ball the attack moved it round at speed, but ultimately the team was less effective as a result of missing players.
