The school’s girls’ sports teams have enjoyed a brilliant start to October, winning three tournaments in the space of just five days.
Our first winners of the month were our U13s netball team, who won the north-west HMC festival tournament at Stonyhurst. Unbeaten on the day, they defeated Cheadle Hulme, Bolton, Stonyhurst, King Edward VII and Queen Mary, Newcastle-under-Lyme and King’s Macclesfield on the way to being crowned champions.
A second victory for our netballers followed when the U15s lifted the Stockport schools tournament trophy. After winning their section they went on to beat Cheadle Hulme in the semi-final before a brilliant 9-3 win against St James in the final.
Not to be outdone, our first XI hockey team then won the Greater Manchester county round of the national schools under-18s tournament, qualifying for next month’s north semi-final.
Withington, Bury Grammar and Sale Grammar were all dispatched in the first round before a 1-0 win against Altrincham set up a final against local rivals Cheadle Hulme. Captained by Charlotte Bailey, the girls were 2-1 victors and completed an impressive week for sport at the school.
