Rugby: 1st XV through to Daily Mail Vase quarter-finals

First XV v Duchess Community High

The rugby 1st XV have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Daily Mail Vase after an impressive 20-5 win against Duchess Community High yesterday, meaning the squad are just two wins away from a once-in-a-lifetime appearance at Twickenham.

Duchess Community High congratulate first XVOur opponents from Alnwick, Northumberland, were beaten by tries from Sam Fraser, Ben Hayes and James Webster and a conversion and a penalty from Mark Goodstadt.

The boys have now won the competition’s north B knockout section and will face the winners of the Midlands group – either The Leys or Oundle – in early February’s quarter-final.

A win in that fixture would put the squad through to the competition’s semi-finals at Broadstreet in Coventry, before the final at the world’s biggest rugby union stadium, Twickenham, in April.
