Stockport Grammar School’s chorus and chamber choir delighted an audience of parents, governors and music-lovers on Saturday evening with a performance in collaboration with Cheshire Sinfonia and Chorale that surpassed all expectations.
107 Senior School pupils took part in the gala concert, the opening event for the school’s 525th anniversary celebrations.
The concert opened with Handel’s The King Shall Rejoice, followed by Mozart’s Symphony no.38 in D Major, K.504, “Prague”, both conducted by Mr Peter Stallworthy of the Cheshire Sinfonia and Chorale.
Haydn’s Nelson Mass conducted by Mr Michael Dow, Director of Music at SGS, comprised the second half of the concert. The pupils’ talent and dedication and their collaboration with such acclaimed classical ensembles resulted in a programme that demonstrated the highest quality of musicianship.
Parents can now look forward to the next celebratory event in the school’s 525th year, the Senior School production of Oliver! from 14th to 17th March 2012.
