Sky News arts and entertainment correspondent and Old Stopfordian Lucy Cotter (OS 1998) came back to school in the last week of term to speak to our pupils about journalism and to hold a workshop with our first year school newspaper team.

At Sky, Lucy covers the major award ceremonies and red carpet events including the Oscars, Baftas and Brits where she regularly secures interviews with the likes of Will Smith, Hugh Jackman and George Clooney.

Later on in the afternoon, Lucy held a more careers-orientated discussion with older pupils who were thinking about a future in the profession.

In what was an invaluable session for those involved, Lucy took questions on everything from her news team’s morning meetings to the difficulties of 24 hour rolling news and verifying news sources.

Before joining Sky News, Lucy was the entertainment correspondent for ITV’s London Tonight as well as a regular studio presenter for the programme, and has also worked for Sky Arts, as a reporter and presenter for Granada TV and as a political reporter for their North West programme.

After completing her A-levels at Stockport Grammar, Lucy gained a 2:1 in Psychology, Sociology and Politics from Cambridge University and also has a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
