Vernon win Junior School house football competition

Goal being scored in Junior School house football

Although lunchtimes are usually a time for relaxation and chat, the Junior School house football competition during the last Monday and Tuesday of term ensured they were anything but calm in a tournament that had everything from unbelievable goals to heartwarming sportsmanship.

Vernon house took the initiative on the first day of the competition, winning both of their games and scoring six goals in the process. Meanwhile, it was a Monday to forget for Warren who, in a tight match, were edged out by Nicholson before going on to lose 2-0 to Arden.

Junior School house footballerAfter Arden and Nicholson drew 1-1 in a scrappy, physical game on the Tuesday, all that was left was for Vernon – the team of the tournament so far – to finish off Warren after taking an early lead.

But Warren hadn’t read the script! In front of a big crowd gathered in the playground, the underdogs fought and fought, and not only did they equalise but they struck again with seconds to spare! It was a brilliant match and a fantastic effort from the winning team.

Vernon were eventually crowned worthy winners, with Arden just sneaking in front of Nicholson on goal difference, but Warren held their heads up high as the collected a special prize for the teamwork they showed (every substitute had a chance to play in each match) and their sporting attitude.

Well done all who took part.
