Cycling coach Joe helps pupils get the best out of their bikes

Year 6 pupils begin bike race

Following on from the visit of three-time Olympic cycling medalist Rob Hayles, our year six pupils had the chance to try out racing for themselves when coach Joe Malik dropped by to run a training session.

Pupil dismounting bikeDuring the session, Joe showed the children how to use gears and brakes efficiently, how to dismount a bike while it’s still moving and, most importantly, how to ride it faster but safer.

After they’d received tips on how to get the best out of their bikes, our pupils were each given a free water bottle and more information on local cycling clubs that they can join.

Earlier in the week, former world champion Rob Hayles had been a very special guest of the Junior School, where he spent a whole morning speaking to pupils of all ages about his outstanding career in the sport.
