Mayor of Stockport welcomes Junior School pupils to town hall

Junior School pupils at Stockport town hall

The mayor and lady mayoress of Stockport have been regular guests of the Junior School during their year of office, but last week they played the hosts when some of our pupils were invited to the town hall.

The 12 former and current house captains were given a guided tour of Stockport’s grandest building, including the mayor’s rooms and the iconic marble staircase, and were allowed to sit in the chairs and at the tables usually reserved for important dignitaries.

As well as inspecting the mayor’s robes, hat and gold chain, the pupils also saw the stained glass window inscribed with the name of Sir Edmund Shaa, former lord mayor of London and founder of Stockport Grammar School.
