School opens doors for historic heritage open day tour

The school opened its doors to the public at the weekend for a historic tour of the buildings and grounds as part of the national programme of Heritage Open Days.

Around 70 local residents, Old Stopfordians, history enthusiasts and families of current pupils were treated to a “behind-the-gates” tour of the oldest school in north-west England.

The tours, given by the External Relations department and school archivist Stuart Helm, highlighted our history from our foundation in 1487 and the move in 1916 to our current location, all the way through to the recent opening of the new Woodsmoor building.

Visitors also perused a display of historic images and information alongside artefacts from the school archives, before sampling some of the delicious baking from school kitchen – which our pupils are lucky enough to enjoy all year-round!
