A pre-season friendly match against Cheadle Hulme provided an encouraging start to the new season.
The game was close in the first half, with little to choose between the teams by the end of the first quarter. But in the third and fourth quarters Stops pulled away with a string of well taken goals.
New captain Phil Hall led the team competently in a display of good lacrosse. Backed up by a sound performance from Mark Woodhead in goal, the defence closed down the Cheadle Hulme attack for much of the game
Clearances were generally sound with a consistently steady work rate from the midfield. Alex Ehegartner made a useful return to the attack, where Paul Bowden’s accurate distribution of the ball reflected his years of experience.
As a warm-up for the coming season this was exactly what was needed, although there will be tougher opposition to come in the weeks ahead.
