A panel of experts judged our Young Enterprise team’s marketing and digital advertising skills to be the second best in the competition at the contest’s national finals in London just before the summer break.
Necessories, led by a team of Sixth Form pupils, were up for the Young Enterprise new media award, and had to showcase their product – a slimline holepunch that can clip through the rings of a lever arch file – by presenting a 15-second video advert, viewable below, to a panel of experts in digital and television marketing.
On their way to the finishing as national runners-up, the group also won the local final and were winners of the north-west new media award.
The Porta Punch itself was designed and prototyped by Necessories marketing co-directors Alex Longson and Daniel Paigge, and Alex explained how the idea for the product came about:
We found the inspiration for the idea from being frustrated that teachers would sometimes hand out un-punched sheets in class.
Using the facilities in the school Design Technology department, we were able to construct a fully-functioning model of the holepunch which could be demonstrated to prospective buyers.
