Sheffield proved to be a very slick outfit and quickly put their stamp on the game, taking a 5-0 lead by quarter time.
Despite Sheffield’s early dominance Stops defended resolutely with Adrian Chandler, Andy Hancock and midfield convert Norman Woodside getting in some timely checks.
Despite trailing as they went into the second quarter, Stops appeared to be still ‘in the game’. But the second period saw Sheffield move into an unassailable position as they hit the back of the net eight times.
Stops’ attack saw little of the ball, but managed to snatch two well-taken goals as Neil Catto and Alex Ehegartner put themselves on the scoresheet.
The third quarter brought a closer period of play as Stops scored two more, courtesy of Peter Hibbert, while holding Sheffield to just three goals.
Stops kept in the hunt with a further goal in the last quarter, but with very little possession they conceded five more to the in-form Sheffield attack.
Despite the scoreline there was some good lacrosse from the Stops team and with a full squad there is every chance of picking up points against some of the less powerful teams in the division.
Next Saturday brings a week off, to be followed by another tough game on 27th October against Brooklands.
