Stops went into the match against Leeds knowing this was a great chance to pick up some points and avenge the defeat suffered at home early in the season.
However, upon arrival, with a short warm up, and a massive pitch, Stops were very slow out of the blocks. By quarter time, Leeds had already taken advantage of Stops’ lethargic start to storm into a 6-0 lead.
The second quarter brought a slight improvement for Stops, grabbing a couple of goals, but still going in at half-time 9-2 down.
Stops continued to battle hard, but had left far too much to do, and ended the match 15-6 down. Neil Catto bagged three goals, while Andrew Withington, Phil Hall and Paul Bowden chipped in with a goal apiece.
Special mention should go to Norman Woodside and James Allen, who both performed well in new positions, giving Stops greater flexibility and options for future matches.
Next Saturday Stops face a traditionally weak Ashton side – a must-win game to get our first points of the season.
