TV chef James Martin was full of praise for three of our pupils who cooked for him at the north-west final of the Red Tractor beef and lamb young chef challenge.
To enter, pupils had to create an original, healthy recipe for under £10 using beef or lamb mince to be judged on taste, originality, nutrition and presentation.
And after Red Tractor received hundreds of entries, Charlie Kirker (whose lamb meatball kebabs are pictured above), Emma Winder and Emelia Biondi were shortlisted to take part in the regional final where James and his fellow judges were blown away by our pupils’ creative dishes:
- Mini sesame lamb burgers with nutty pomegranate salad and roasted sweet potatoes (Emma Winder)
- Biondi burgers (Emelia Biondi)
- Lamb meatball kebabs with a light curry dressing (Charlie Kirker)
All three of our pupils were highly commended for their creations, and James reserved special praise for Charlie, telling him that he had “real potential”.
In the previous three years of the competition, Stockport Grammar pupils Heather Tallents and Jaina Mistry both confirmed themselves as being among the country’s best young chefs after winning the north-west finals, while Katy Bacon, Charlotte Biondi, Amelia Cropper, Rebecca Fernandes and Ed Robinson have all made it through to the regional rounds.
