Young Shakespeare Company bring Twelfth Night to life for Junior School pupils

Young Shakespeare Company with Junior School children

Our year five pupils found themselves in the middle of a performance of Twelfth Night when the Young Shakespeare Company came to perform at the school.

The theatre group brought Shakespeare’s comedy to life, using the children to help create such dramatic scenes as the storm which shipwrecks Viola and Sebastian and the raucous party at Lady Olivia’s house.

Volunteers from the audience were also given the chance to take small speaking parts in the play, and were encouraged to explore the motives, thoughts and feelings of the characters throughout.

After Christmas, the year group will start learning about Shakespeare’s plays in more detail before going on to perform some of his works in the courtyard in the summer.
