Old Stops receive Duke of Edinburgh gold awards at the palace

DofE gold award recipients

Having completed the Duke of Edinburgh gold award during their time at school, 11 Old Stops who left in 2011 and 2012 travelled to St James’s Palace to receive their honours.

The speaker and presenter was TV’s Ben Shepherd and the award recipients also had the privilege of meeting HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.

“A fantastic experience”

Speaking about our pupils’ achievements, Mr Steve Pownall, our own Duke of Edinburgh Award coordinator said:

This is always a fantastic experience for the pupils who have managed to achieve gold and it certainly rewards them for all their effort and determination.

20 years of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award

In 2010 the school celebrated 20 years of involvement with the scheme with a visit from Prince Edward, and last year Stockport Grammar were listed as having achieved the greatest number of awards in the north-west during 2011-2012.
