Stockport Grammar Junior School has been represented on the slopes of the French Alps this year by 11-year-old skier Milly Cowell, who came first in her age category in the giant slalom at a tournament in Chamonix last month.

Competing in the inter-schools challenge, year six pupil Milly’s first-place grand slalom finish  also meant she was an impressive ninth out of all the age groups in the race, while coming second in her age category also saw her finish seventh overall in the combined slalom.

After competing in Chamonix, the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, Milly travelled north to the Meribel resort to compete in a British championship, finishing second in her age category in both the giant slalom (ninth overall) and the combined slalom (eighth overall).

Congratulations to Milly, who’s pictured above training at Val-d’Isère.
