Our junior sports day saw the children from Warren house celebrate a first-place finish after a day during which every single competitor can be proud of themselves following a series of determined performances.
Every pupil from year three upwards took part in six events to test their skill, speed and endurance, and even though the high temperatures made for difficult conditions, every one of our athletes ended the day with a sense of satisfaction after giving their all to the challenges.
Warren led the standings from the morning session, helped by the house winning both the year five and year six relay races and also posting high scores from the long jump, running, target, throwing and hurdle events.
The afternoon was a mix of nerves and excitement for our younger pupils in years three and four who hadn’t competed in the junior sports day before. But with help and encouragement from our year six assistants the children did amazingly well, particularly in a series of very close hurdles races and a thrilling 600 metres which helped demonstrate their outstanding stamina and great determination.
After the event, Mr Milnes checked the scores carefully, with only four points between first and second:
Warren house – 1124 points
Nicholson – 1120
Arden – 1042
Vernon – 984
Well done to all our competitors, and thanks again to the Stopfordian Parents’ Association who, as they did at our infant sports day, kept the dozens of families here to cheer on the children sustained with sweet treats from their cake stall.
