Three of Shakespeare’s greatest plays came to the Junior School when children from year five performed gripping adaptations of Macbeth, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream on an evening of stirring drama.
Despite the appropriately Shakespearean weather forcing the event to be moved indoors from the courtyard at short notice, the children’s performances made sure the audience were transfixed on their every word, rather than the setting!
Directed by their Drama teacher Mrs Alison Sullivan, our actors’ grip of Shakespeare’s complex language proved their understanding of some of the bard’s greatest characters.
The musical accompaniment on the night was just as sophisticated as the acting, with our pupils working with Mrs Ruth Cole to master some difficult chords, melodies and timing as they performed class ensembles drawn from the era’s styles.
Year six musical
With plenty of promising performances throughout the three plays’ casts, Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Cole are both very much looking forward to collaborating with the year group on 2014’s year six musical.
