Artists inspired by Manchester and Salford

Girls drawing in Castlefield

Artists from the lower sixth form made the most of Manchester and Salford’s varied landscapes during a couple of days spent in our two nearest cities gathering source material for their portfolios.

Our pupils’ work from the trips will form the foundation for the rest of the term’s work, with the impressive industrial architecture at their first stop – Castlefield basin – proving to be a superb environment in which to draw.

An afternoon spent in the more bohemian environment of the Northern Quarter let our artists focus on the contrast between old and new Manchester, before they moved onto Salford Quays where the waterfront, combined with the modern architecture, provided plenty of reflected surfaces to challenge the pupils.
