Professor David Lupton (OS 1963) was awarded the Federal Service Cross by the President of Germany last May for activities in local politics, and especially for his work in commemorating Nazi victims in his new home town of Gelnhausen near Frankfurt.
The award approximates to the British OBE and David told us that he felt very honoured to have received the award.
His engineering profession took David to Gelnhausen in 1980 where he has been active in local politics and a town councillor for many years.
Together with a political colleague and his wife, David has led a project to lay memorial plates for Nazi victims in Gelnhausen.
Their experiences are described in a new book “Despite This Past” available in the UK from YPDBooks.com.
