Our footballers marked the school’s first-ever appearance in the ISFA Cup with an emphatic 5-1 win at Box Hill (Surrey) to send Stockport Grammar into the competition’s second round.
A home game against Bedford Modern now awaits our first XI in the second round of independent schools football’s most prestigious competition, with four more wins standing between the team and March’s final at Milton Keynes’ Stadium MK.
In the win at Box Hill, the team soon put the long journey behind them as Michael Schofield scored an early header and skipper Aaron McRoberts netted either side of half-time to make it 3-0.
Despite Box Hill pulling a goal back, Jonathan Collins and Will Hanson both scored to dash the home side’s hopes and make it 5-1 in a game dominated by Stockport Grammar.
Mr Richard Young, reporting from the touchline, was delighted with the performance:
Our side’s concentration, application, teamwork and discipline were outstanding. We dominated possession and territory, won nearly all the first headers in the opening half and reduced Box Hill to three efforts and three corners all game.
It was a professional performance in a big match and a major well done to all who made this a day to remember.
The second round tie against Bedford Modern will take place at 2pm on Thursday 10th October at Stockport Sports Village.
