Rugby boys represent England, Cheshire and Sale

Rugby conversion

As well helping the Stockport Grammar rugby squads maintain fine starts to the new season, several of our top players have also represented the school in national, club and regional sides over the past month.

England and Sale Sharks

Head boy and 1st XV captain Tom Morton spent three days training with the England U18s elite player group at Loughborough University which culminated with him scoring a try and two penalties in a win against Northampton U19s.

James Gilboy and Louis Jones, alongside Tom, both represented Sale Sharks at different levels recently, with James playing against Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership U18 League and Louis facing North Wales for the Sale U16 elite player development group.

Cheshire also rewarded Louis for his fine form by selecting him for the county U16s alongside fellow Sale Shark Tom Power, with Louis since being invited to attend an assessment weekend with the North of England squad, while Tom O’Mahony (also with Sale), Mark Ray and James Gilboy were picked for the Cheshire U18s.

Also receiving representative honours were George Chatterton, Alex Jones, Jaimal Brown and Oli Finch, who were all chosen for East Cheshire U15s.

Stockport Grammar 1st XV coach Mr Hugo Corbett said:

Congratulations to all of the boys who have won representative honours over the past month. Every one of them has deserved to have been picked for their hard work on and off the pitch.

It’s always a proud moment when our boys represent the school at a higher level and it really inspires our other players when they see what their teammates have achieved.

NatWest Schools Cup and Vase

Back on the school pitches, our 1st XV beat King’s Macclesfield 27-7 in round four of the NatWest Schools Cup, while the U15s are through to the next stage of the NatWest Vase after winning 43-19 at Audenshaw.
