Two dazzling candlelit carol services at St George’s church brought families together and the autumn term to a close ahead of the Christmas break.
Pupils, staff, governors, Old Stopfordians and their families and friends always gather to celebrate Christmas at the Senior School and Junior School services, and this year’s events proved to be as popular as ever.
Senior School service
After a welcome from new vicar at St George’s, Reverend Elaine Chegwin-Hall, highlights of the beautiful candlelit Senior School service included traditional congregational carols and prayers alongside performances by the chorus, junior singers and the chamber choir, whose rendition of The Three Kings featured a wonderful baritone solo from Sam Gilliat.
Junior School service
The following evening’s Junior School service was similarly spectacular, with congregational carols accompanying beautiful readings from head boy and girl Ciaran Morgan and Lydia Johnson, school chaplain Reverend Liz Leaver and, for the final time before his retirement next year, headmaster Mr Larry Fairclough.
Programme cover competition
Megan King and her stunning pencil drawing of an angel won this year’s Art department carol service programme cover competition, and the second year pupil’s design was so popular that it was also chosen to be used as the design for the school’s Christmas card.
From everyone at Stockport Grammar School, we would like to wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas, with all good fortune in the new year.
