Artists taking their GCSE exam later this term spent a day at Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery to gather contextual evidence in support of their ideas.
The annual trip to Liverpool gives our pupils the always-beneficial opportunity to see “live” work, and the Walker – with its extensive and varied collection – is a superb resource, and there was also chance to visit the natural history collection at next door’s World Museum.
David Hockney Early Reflections exhibition
The visit coincided with the gallery’s Early Reflections exhibition, which features paintings and drawings from David Hockney, Britain’s most famous living artist.
The new exhibition, which charts the early development of Hockney, includes early work from his time as a student at the Royal College of Art that is considered to be some of his finest – providing a real treat for our pupils and staff to see it displayed together.
School art exhibition
The school’s annual art exhibition on Wednesday 14th May 2014 will feature the results of our fifth year pupils’ hard work – some of which will have been inspired by the visit to Liverpool – alongside our A-level artists’ final pieces.
Teachers’ work exhibited in Waterside Open 2014
Head of Art Mr Richard Davies and teacher Miss Becci Upton both have pieces displayed in the forthcoming Waterside Open 2014 exhibition at Sale’s Waterside Arts Centre.
The exhibition will showcase a wide range of high quality and contemporary art, craft and design from established and emerging artists, designers and makers from the north-west and across the UK.
Waterside Open 2014 runs from Saturday 8th February to Saturday 24th May 2014 and pupils are more than welcome to visit the exhibition.
