Our girls’ U15 cricketers are through to the county stage of the Lady Taverners indoor cricket competition after winning the Stockport round of the tournament.
Captained by Georgina Dare, the team – Lily Wolstenholme, Morgan Hanson, Beth Garnett, Hannah Hartas-Pearson, Jenny Bailey, Lauren Jones, Nicole Tunney and Millie Johnson – beat Cheadle Hulme High, Stockport School and Harrytown on their way to winning the round.
“We’ve all really enjoyed it so far”
Georgina – who also plays cricket for Stockport Georgians with Nicole, Milly, Morgan and Beth – told us about her hopes for the competition’s county stage:
We hope we do just as well in the next round, but it’s the first tournament we’ve played in as a school and we’ve all really enjoyed it so far which is the most important thing!
Before the tournament we practised with the first years who played in the U13s competition and did really well too, finishing second.
It’s been an amazing start to 2014 for girls’ sport at Stockport Grammar, with:
- several of our hockey players being picked for England squads and training programmes and our U13s progressing in a national championship
- Katelyn Bergin, Maddie Crompton, Olivia Dykes and Hannah Jones excelling in the swimming pool
- Alice Coombes being picked for the Independent Schools Football Association North U18s squad
- Meghan Myers winning the sports champion prize at the Proud of Stockport awards
We’ll be covering all the girls’ success stories on the website in the coming weeks.
