Stockport Grammar are into the last 16 of Schools’ Challenge after winning the Manchester and Merseyside round of the UK-wide general knowledge competition for schools.
The team of Will Johnson, Will Spence, Emily Howling and Sam Howard – from the third year through to our sixth form – will now pit their wits against Bradford Grammar in the inter-regional final for a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In the group stage of the competition, the team:
- beat Merchant Taylors’ B 480-330
- beat Calday Grange Grammar 480-330
- beat Manchester Grammar 450-310
Our pupils then beat Merchant Taylors’ A team 770-690 in the final to win the regional shield and their place in the next round.
Schools’ Challenge has been running since 1978 and follows a similar format to University Challenge, with pupils having to buzz in to correctly answer starter questions to give their team a chance of winning more points from a series of bonus questions.
