10-year-old climber Sam Lavender is through to the finals of the British Mountaineering Council youth climbing series after finishing third in the north-west in his age category.
Sam progressed through three rounds in the north-west heats to reach the final after finishing third in Warrington and Manchester and then joint-second in Liverpool.
Now he’ll be representing the north-west in the grand final in June at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena – the largest indoor climbing centre in the world – where he finished third in his age category in the 2012 competition.
Sam, who has been climbing since the age of six, gets plenty of practice on the wall both in and out of school. He is a member of our climbing club who use our own Peter Boardman climbing wall and also attends Rope Race in Marple.
Climbing club currently runs every Wednesday lunchtime and Friday afternoon at school, and our sport and PE extracurricular activities page contains details of the dozens of opportunities we offer to pupils to get involved with sporting activities in and outside of their PE and Games lessons.
