Footballer Alice Coombes is one step closer to the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) England squad after being selected to attend an U18 girls development camp this summer.
15-year-old Alice’s selection for the three-day camp comes after she was picked to play for the first ever ISFA North U18s squad in a tournament against other regional sides.
She impressed enough during the games to be chosen for this summer’s development camp, which the ISFA will use as a trial for their England independent schools squad who will play matches over the winter.
North squad trial
Alice doesn’t currently represent a team and her only practice for her north squad trial in February came from playing football with her brothers – making her selection for a squad containing girls three years older than her even more impressive.
She also told us back in February about her preferred position on the pitch:
I play left-midfield, because whenever I’ve tried playing in defence I’ve drifted too far up the pitch and whenever I’m up front I end up too far back!
Girls’ football at Stockport Grammar
Girls’ football practice currently runs every Monday lunchtime at school, and our sport and PE extracurricular activities page contains details of the dozens of opportunities we offer to pupils to play sport outside of their PE and Games lessons.
