German exchange pupils welcomed to Stockport

Languages pupils are already looking forward to the return leg of the German exchange after their new friends from Hamburg spent a week in Stockport.

Exchange pupils saying goodbye

Our visitors from Städtisches Gymnasium in Bad Segeberg stayed with our fifth year pupils’ families and made lots of new friends while attending lessons at Stockport Grammar and exploring the north-west.

Lessons and days out

Heads of chemistry, modern foreign languages and biology Dr Annie Glarvey, Miss Sylvia Gibson and Mr Peter Grant all led special lessons for our guests, while their out-of-school activities included visits to the Museum of Science and Industry, Blackpool, Manchester Climbing Centre and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

The weekend gave our hosts the chance to get to know the visitors even better, with some heading down to London and others staying more local for cinema and shopping trips – making for some tearful goodbyes as they departed for the airport at the end of their stay!

Return leg

The new friends will all be reunited on the return leg of the annual exchange in February, when it’ll be our pupils’ turn to stay with their partners’ families in Bad Segeberg.

Last year’s German exchange

During their week in northern Germany, our exchangees will be able to practise their language in lessons at Städtisches Gymnasium and while enjoying days out in Lubeck and Hamburg.
