Fifty brilliant self-portraits by pupils from ten local primary schools were on display at the final of our year five art competition, judged by leading artist Mark Demsteader and sponsored by Brewin Dolphin.
Charlie from Gorsey Bank Primary won the first prize of a £50 art voucher for her school and a watercolour painting set for herself, with Emma (Torkington Primary) and Bjorn (The Ryleys) being named as the two runners up.
Competition judge Mark Demsteader – “one of Britain’s best-selling figurative painters” – and Stockport Grammar head of art and design Mr Richard Davies were both full of praise for the quality of the work that all the finalists had produced.
Before the winners were announced, the children browsed an exhibition of each other’s work and took part in drawing and monoprinting workshops with our own sixth form artists.
Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to our finalists, who all went home with a goody bag, and their teachers for helping to create such a vibrant exhibition.
The competition is open to all local primary schools and is in its second year after Michael from Torkington won our inaugural prize.
The event was kindly supported by leading wealth management company Brewin Dolphin as part of their community sponsorship programme.
