Rugby: Tom, Mark and Max make Cheshire U18s

Rugby 1st XV v Old Stops

Even more of the school’s rugby players have been chosen for their county, with Tom O’Mahony, Mark Ray and Max Lederwerg’s selection for the Cheshire U18s adding to an ever-growing list.

Tom, Mark and Max will all be involved in fixtures against Yorkshire, Northumberland and Lancashire over the coming months, with the selectors using the games to choose a North U18s squad.

George Chatterton will also represent Cheshire in U16s games against Lancashire, Yorkshire and a combined Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham XV and will also be hoping to impress enough to make it into the North U16s team.

Several other players were picked to train with Cheshire at the beginning of October, while Max Gilbert and Seb Walker were selected for this season’s Independent Schools RFC Northern Lambs U13s squad.

Season so far

Back on the school pitches, the 1st XV have made an impressive start to the season with high-scoring wins against King William’s College, an Old Stopfordians XV (pictured above) and Calday Grange and impressive defeats of Wirral Grammar, St Ambrose College and Cheadle Hulme.

Old Stopfordians and former school 1st XV captains James Flynn (OS 2012) and Tom Morton (OS 2014, pictured right, below) both started for Sale Jets in their Aviva A League tie against Leicester Tigers A.

Despite a 13-0 defeat, the game time was beneficial for both players’ development, with Tom being a member of the club’s U18s squad and James having already made four appearances for the Sharks first team.
