Daisy Keigher’s first-place finish in the Independent Association of Prep Schools north-west cross country race helped our U11 girls’ team claim the runners-up prize at the event.
10-year-old Daisy was the fastest of 80 runners on a damp and windy golf course at Stonyhurst College, while Darcy Breen from year four showed great potential to finish fourth.
Congratulations to the whole team – Daisy Keigher, Darcy Breen, Mia Hutchinson, Lizzie Griffiths, Amy Jack and Libby Wolstenholme – on coming second in such tough conditions!
The boys’ team finished a respectable eighth in their event, but the real story is that of William Finnie who showed tremendous determination to complete the race despite losing a shoe halfway around!
Finishing the course of steep and slippery hills while wearing just one trainer was no mean feat, so PE teacher Mr Dave Makinson investigated:
When we asked if he hadn’t thought of picking his shoe up, he said he didn’t want to ruin the team’s chances of finishing well up the field.
Well done William, exactly the spirit we try to instil!
