Aachen Christmas markets: pupils practise German

Pupils by Aachen fountain

A weekend at Aachen’s famous festive markets helped our second years practise their German and get ready for Christmas.

Pupils in Aachen

After a good sleep following a 12-hour coach trip featuring Christmas quizzes and festive films, our languages pupils headed into the town to take part in tasks that put their German listening and speaking skills to the test.

Exploring Aachen

Once they’d followed a town trail, spoken to shopkeepers and interviewed the locals, the pupils used the extra German they’d learned throughout the morning to explore the markets and stock up on treats and local delicacies.

Bowling in Belgium

As well as practising their German, our linguists also furthered their French when they crossed the Belgian border for food and a game of bowling.

Annual trip

Everyone returned to Stockport tired but laden with Christmas gifts, having had a brilliant – and linguistically enriching – weekend.

The trip has become a Christmas tradition for the department, so our current first year pupils can look forward to having the chance to visit Aachen in 2015.
