Languages pupils sing from Frozen in German

German reading competition finalists

Pippa Brown won our latest languages reading competition after learning and reciting the lyrics to Ich Lass Los, the German version of one of the most popular songs of 2014 – Let It Go from Frozen.

Pupils from every class in the second year took part in the contest at the end of the autumn term, with the best five from each form winning house points and going through to the grand final.

German assistant Stephanie Rumpel judged our finalists – pictured above – on pronunciation, delivery, presence and expression, and picked the following winners:

  • Pippa Brown, first prize
  • Tayib Shah, second prize
  • Sarah Callow, third prize

Pippa’s first-place finish saw her win a £15 iTunes voucher, with Tayib and Sarah both taking home runners-up prizes.

Debaters win northern schools contest

Earlier in the term, a team of older pupils studying German won this year’s northern schools modern foreign languages debating competition, recording our best ever results in the contest.

Our sixth form pupils debated against other schools on complex issues in their respective languages, with David Edgley and Liza Vul beating 16 other teams to the German prize – an achievement that Pippa, Tayib and Sarah will surely be looking to emulate in a few years’ time!
