Our rugby 1st XV and U15s are both through to the last 16 of the NatWest Schools Vase – meaning they’re now just three wins away from a national final at Twickenham.
Arnold KEQMS 6-28 U15s
The U15s (pictured in round five action v QEGS Ashbourne) are through to the north B area final after three tries from Max Wood, one from Max McCormack and four Pat Chatterton conversions saw them win 28-6 at Arnold KEQMS.
Hill House School will be our boys’ opponents in round seven later this January, with the winners progressing to a national quarter-final ahead of the semi-finals and the Twickenham final.
1st XV also progress
Our 1st XV are also through to an area final against either Kings Priory or Ilkley Grammar in the U18s competition, having already beaten Sale Grammar 63-10 and St Ambrose 46-29 so far.
Tom O’Mahony – Independent Schools national U18s
The 1st XV’s Tom O’Mahony has also had success with the Independent Schools RFC Northern Lambs U18s in a series of fixtures against other regional sides this January.
The upper sixth form pupil scored a try in the Lambs’ 10-0 win against Yorkshire and featured as the North beat the South 39-24 at Maidenhead.
Tom has progressed to the Northern Lambs squad after playing for the Cheshire U18s and attending a North U18s assessment weekend, and will be hoping that his performances will lead to a call-up to the national squad.
UPDATE: Since publishing, Tom has been selected for the Independent Schools RFC national squad and will start at number 15 in their fixture against a Midlands side on Sunday 25th January.
