Rugby: 1st XV reach NatWest Vase semi-final

The semi-finals of the NatWest Schools Vase await our 1st XV after a brilliant 32-15 win against Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College.

The quarter-final tie saw the team come from behind to beat Welbeck with tries from Tom Travis (2), Will Jones, Mark Ray, George Chatterton and conversions from Tom O’Mahony and Will Hanson – who also added a penalty.

Allianz Park, home of Premiership club Saracens, will host the semi-final on Saturday 7th March when the winners will progress to the final at Twickenham.

U15s Vase

Our U15s will join the 1st XV at Allianz Park should they beat Bishop Wordsworth’s in Salisbury on Tuesday 24th February.

The U15s have beaten Fallibroome Academy 20-7, QEGS Ashbourne 24-22, Arnold KEQMS 28-6 and Hill House 29-26 to reach the quarter-finals.

Tom O’Mahony – Independent Schools national U18s

The 1st XV’s Tom O’Mahony has also been playing for the Independent Schools RFC national squad after progressing through the Cheshire and North U18s sides.

Rugby kicker v Welbeck

He’s featured in fixtures against the Midlands, London and the South-East and in a stunning comeback which saw the squad recover from being 17-0 down to beat the Irish Exiles 24-22.

Tom Morton – England U20s

Former head boy and 1st XV captain Tom Morton (OS 2014) has also received national recognition after being named in the England squad for the U20s Six Nations.

Rugby players

Tom (pictured right), who plays for Sale Sharks and Macclesfield, was an unused replacement in England’s opening defeat in Wales but will be hoping to get some game time during the remaining fixtures.
