Rugby: 1st XV and U15s through to quarter-finals

Twickenham is just two wins away for our rugby 1st XV and U15s after they both reached the NatWest Schools Vase quarter-finals.

The 1st XV and U15s beat Ilkley Grammar and Hill House respectively to qualify for the competition’s last eight.

The winners will progress to the semi-finals at Saracens’ Allianz Park ahead of a potential final at Twickenham.

Quarter-final ties

In the U18s and U15s competition draws, Gloucester and England number eight Ben Morgan pulled out:

  • Stockport Grammar U18s v Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College
  • Bishop Wordsworth’s v Stockport Grammar U15s

The tie against Welbeck will be played on Monday 9th February 2015, with the date for the U15s quarter-final to be confirmed.

1st XV 25-5 Ilkley Grammar

Tries by Tom Power, Will Hanson (2), Louis Jones and James Travis saw the 1st XV beat Ilkley Grammar and win their area final.

Rugby 1st XV v Ilkley

As well as their victory over Ilkley, the boys have beaten Sale Grammar 63-10 and St Ambrose 46-29 to reach their national-quarter final against Midlands B winners Welbeck.

U15s 29–26 Hill House

Max Wood (2), Alex Brooks, Ed Parry and George Lyth scored tries and Pat Chatterton added two conversions as the U15s saw off Hill House in a thriller played at Burnage RFC.

U15s v QEGS Ashbourne

The U15s had already beaten Fallibroome Academy 20-7, QEGS Ashbourne 24-22 and Arnold KEQMS 28-6 in previous rounds to reach the last 16.
