Our footballers have qualified for the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) U11 seven-a-side national finals at England’s St George’s Park – where some of our older players recently spent a day training.
The U11s finished second in the north-west tournament after beating King’s Chester, Westholme and Rossall and drawing with Bolton and Manchester Grammar to finish joint-top of the group stage.
Semi-final and final
The winners of the semi-final against Bury Grammar would progress to the national finals, and the boys’ determination to reach St George’s Park saw them completely dominate the game and win 2-0.
A narrow defeat to Bolton in the final means that Stockport Grammar will represent the north-west as runners-up in May’s national finals at the national football centre in Burton-on-Trent.
Training at St George’s Park
Senior school footballers from our U15s, U14s, U13s and U12s squads experienced a day of training at St George’s Park with FA coaches from Aston Villa, Bristol City, Sheffield United and Coventry City ahead of a busy month of fixtures.
The boys also enjoyed a tour of the centre’s state-of-the-art facilities – which are used by all of England’s national squads – and learned more about sports science, rehabilitation, the principles of training and how they are applied in an elite sporting environment.
The U11s have already lifted two trophies this year after winning the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) north-west tournament and sharing the King’s Macclesfield seven-a-side shield.
A brilliant defensive performance saw our boys beat Manchester Grammar 2-0 to win the IAPS cup in October, while they finished as joint-winners of September’s King’s Macclesfield tournament after extra-time couldn’t separate the boys and King’s Chester in a goalless final.
Amazing week of sport
The boys’ win came in an amazing week of sport at Stockport Grammar which also saw our hockey 1st XI be crowned champions of England and our U13 netballers qualify for the national final of the Smile independent schools cup.
Our rugby 1st XV have also tasted success this February, qualifying for March’s NatWest Schools Vase semi-finals to be held at Allianz Park, home of Premiership club Saracens.
