Singers join professionals at choral concert

Choral concert soloists

Singers in our chorus and chamber choir joined professional soloists, Chorale and Cheshire Sinfonia for an evening of wonderful music.

Conducted by Peter Stallworthy and school director of music Mr Michael Dow, the concert gave our pupils the invaluable opportunity to work with professional performers and the audience the privilege of hearing them together.

Audience moved to tears

Sixth former Jennifer Kent moved some audience members to tears with her exceptional solo performance of Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate, while Haydn’s Te Deum with chamber choir, Chorale and Cheshire Sinfonia provided another highlight of the evening.

Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor (K427) was performed in its entirety in the second half of the programme, bringing together Chorale, chorus, soloists and Cheshire Sinfonia for a wonderful finale.

“A great celebration”

Mr Dow said that the concert was a special occasion:

The concert was a great celebration of choral singing at Stockport Grammar School. It was a pleasure to collaborate with musicians from across the Greater Manchester area to put together such an exciting, varied and challenging programme.

My congratulations to all the pupils involved, especially Jennifer Kent for her outstanding solo in Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate.

My thanks too to all the staff, soloists and parents, our guest conductor and Chorale and Cheshire Sinfonia for all the hard work up to and including this wonderful evening.

Music department highlights

The concert was one of the highlights of this year’s music department calendar which has already featured our winter and Christmas concerts and a magical candlelit carol service.
