Musicians finish second at Alderley Edge festival

Alderley Edge festival musicians

Musicians from the junior school finished second in their category at the Alderley Edge festival during what was a busy couple of weeks for our performers.

Following months of rehearsals, our musicians played the theme from Titanic, extracts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and a ragtime piece for the prestigious competition’s adjudicator.

Finishing second in the ensemble class was an impressive achievement, and our pupils were highly commended for their professional behaviour and discipline, competent playing and musically interesting performances.

House music competition

Some of our performers also took part in our very own house competition, judged by senior school director of music Mr Michael Dow.

House music competition finalists

20 finalists took part following extensive auditions, and our winners were:

  • year three – Lara Mathen, drums (Warren house)
  • year four – Mackenzie Shropshire, drums (Warren)
  • year five – Isla Forbes, violin
  • year six – Alice Song, piano (Warren)
  • vocalists – Kate Horsley (Arden)

Mr Dow offered our performers plenty of advice for further development, and emphasised the joys of music-making as he encouraged their continued involvement.
